Official Name
Gavi is the stalwart of white wines on Italian restaurant winelists. It has a really clean, pure character and a fresh fruit flavour. It has been in and out of fashion, but the wines we see now are great everyday drinking wines. Gavi can only be made in an area of Northern Italy and is made with a grape called Cortese, which you almost never see on a label. Quality can be a bit unreliable so it’s worth remembering if you find one you like.
Things you should know

Top Tip: Gavi can be a great wine if you are eating a mixture of food and need a wine to go with lots of things.

Specific Food Match: Gavi comes into its own with baked fish dishes and pasta dishes with light creamy sauces. But don't underestimate its value in post work crisps.
